In Mindfulness: MIND MATTERS
One can't assume that the nature of
the mind matters to everyone.
In fact
neglect of the mind is
particularly noticeable in a contemporary
society driven by impulse, distraction,
instant gratification, superficiality
and materialism - leading to harm of self,
others and the environment.
In contrast to this general state of
neglect, modern neuroscience is escalating
its study of the brain to optimize our
health and function.
A recent TIME magazine article was titled
"How to Get Smarter One Breath At
A Time". It states that "Meditation
directly affects the function and structure
of the brain, changing it in ways that
appear to increase attention span, sharpen
focus and improve memory."
To engage our mind we enter its expansive
nature
our mindscape
by choosing
to step out of the rapid and seductive
pace of life, by purposely slowing down
and becoming more deeply present.
Within the moment we allow ourselves
to fully experience the simplicity of
each breath, the subtle sensations within
our body, and the nature of our mind.
Within the moment lies the possibility
for us to encounter a sense of peace and
to touch our wholeness.
A quote from the writing of Jon Kabat-Zinn.
"Mindscape
The challenge is
can we know it?
Can we not be caught by it?
Can we be free of it?
Can we be free in it?
